WHY WIRELESS TRANSMISSION IS STILL A DREAM?

THE WIRELESS TRANSMISSION IS NOT POSSIBLE WITH THE CURRENT TECHNOLOGY!
          Hi readers you might be wondering why i took this question? the reason is many of us are curious about learning the wireless technology prevailing nowadays.  Some might have wondered why cant we transmit electricity through air?  (p.s I too have wondered about this!).  So lets get into the exact scenario behind this..


WIRELESS TRANSFER OF CHARGES:

         At first let us know what is wireless transfer of electric charges!  To know about this click this text to learn about the wireless transfer of electric charges! So after reading this article proceed with the below content!

EXPLANATION:

         This has a complex definition and understanding level if I use formulas and theory part.  So let us consider an analogy.  Imagine that you are going to transfer 20 litres of water from a station A to station B.  The most wiser and cost efficient way is that we will use a PVC or an alloy pipe for transferring this water.  Now imagine that what if the transfer can be done by sending 20 litres of water without a PVC pipe or an alloy pipe.  The results might be 1.All the water might be wasted 2. some of the water is wasted and some reached. and in practical only a tiny amount of water will reach station B given it is near to station A.



         Now imagine of sending the water in a gaseous form through air.  The water vapours will reach station B with minimum loss in the content right!  For this kind of transfer the pipe is not required and we can use air itself as its passing medium or a carry medium of transfer of water from station A to station B.

          In the above criteria we have considered the transfer of water to be analogous to the transmission of electric charges through air.  Sending water vapour through air is easy because water has three forms and also note that we are transferring small amount of water.  And sending water vapour is analogous with the sending of electric radio signals.  To transmit large amount of power from one station to another station, a metallic conductor is essential just like the pipe is essential to transmit large litres of water from one station to the other station with minimum losses.

         We quoted radio signals because radio signals are nothing but a alternating current signal which has a really high  frequencies and thus resulting in low power. since the frequency is high it can be transmitted for a larger distance.  I will post about radio signals soon.  Hence it can be transferred wirelessly as it is done now.

          Although we can also transmit the larger power through air but it is practically efficient only for very short distances.

 THE REASON WE DON'T DISTRIBUTE POWER AS TESLA HAS TRIED AND IT IS A DUMB IDEA  BECAUSE:


  • The power available in any fixed volume decreases with the cube of the distance from the transmitter. Lets say for example that you could extract 100 kW from a cubic meter 10 meters from the transmitter. At 100 meters that would be 100 W. At 200 meters 12.5 Watts, which is barely enough to power a light. 
  • There is no way to measure individual use, so how do you charge people? You can't expect me to pay just because you put up a tower. I can claim I never used any of the power, and you can't prove otherwise. 
  • We don't really know what the health effects of long term exposure to significantly powerful electric fields are. Think about it. If a lightbulb is supposed to intercept the power from this field to light itself, how exactly is your body not supposed to intercept some power?

  • How do you keep ordinary object that happen to have the right electrical properties from intercepting the power and heating up? You'd have to be very careful with using any material that isn't a good insulator. You'd have to keep its size, orientation, and impedance in mind carefully to avoid it grabbing power from the E field all around it. Think of all the metal objects you take for granted. Even a aluminum can of soda could be a problem.
  •  It is horribly inefficient, even if it did work. There will be many ordinary object as in #4 above. Let alone what happens to those objects when they intercept this power, but think of the huge waste of power from the producer's side. Every wet tree branch, the ground, and all sorts of things will take power from this E field. Like I said, it's dumb idea, and was a dumb idea when Tesla tried it too, as some of his own equations should have told him. 
SHORT DISTANCE INDUCTION:

         This concept can be clearly explained by action of an electrical transformer.  It is  a simple way of wireless energy transfer.  The primary and secondary circuit of the transformer are electrically isolated from each other.  During the energy transmission the power is transferred by electromagnetic induction which is nothing but when a current flows in a conductor a magnetic flux is created around the conductor.  The transfer depends on the current flowing through the coil and number of turns of the coil.  The mobile phone charger is a good example of how this principle works.

           Theoretical Background It is known that electromagnetic energy also associated with the propagation of the electromagnetic waves. We can use theoretically all electromagnetic waves for a wireless power transmission (WPT). The difference between the WPT and communication systems is only efficiency.
           The Maxwell’s Equations indicate that the electromagnetic field and its power diffuse to all directions. Although we transmit the energy in the communication system, the transmitted energy is diffused to all directions. Although the received power is enough for a transmission of information, the efficiency from the transmitter to receiver is quiet low. Therefore, we do not call it the WPT system.
        Typical WPT is a point-to-point power transmission. For the WPT, we had better concentrate power to receiver. It was proved that the power transmission efficiency can approach close to 100%. We can more concentrate the transmitted microwave power to the receiver aperture areas with taper method of the transmitting antenna power distribution. i.e there might be a slight deviation in the receiving end since the energy dispersers on all sides.  So we are focusing the charges to a particular side where the receiver receives all energy!  Famous power tapers of the transmitting antenna are Gaussian taper, Taylor distribution, and Chebychev distribution. These taper of the transmitting antenna is commonly used for suppression of sidelobes. It corresponds to increase the power transmission efficiency. Concerning the power transmission efficiency of the WPT, there are some good optical approaches in Russia.  Future suitable and largest application of the WPT via microwave is a Space Solar Power

         Satellite (SPS). The SPS is a gigantic satellite designed as an electric power plant orbiting in the Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO). It consists of mainly three segments; solar energy collector to convert the solar energy into DC (direct current) electricity, DC-to-microwave converter, and large antenna array to beam down the microwave power to the ground. The first solar collector can be either photovoltaic cells or solar thermal turbine. The second DC-to-microwave converter of the SPS can be either microwave tube system and/or semiconductor system. It may be their combination. The third segment is a gigantic antenna array.

            The SPS is expected to realize around 2030. Before the realization of the SPS, we can consider the other application of the WPT. In recent years, mobile devices advance quickly and require decreasing power consumption. It means that we can use the diffused weak microwave power as a power source of the mobile devices with low power consumption such as RF-ID. The RF-ID is a
 2 radio IC-tug with wireless power transmission and wireless information. This is a new WPT application like broadcasting.

           ‘Inductive technique’ utilizes magnetic coupling to transfer energy from one coil to another. Nickola Tesla introduced/invented this technique for wireless power transmission.  ‘Magnetic resonance coupling’ is a modification of inductive coupling that increases the range of the inductive coupling significantly. LG, Qualcomm, Samsung and Toyota are the top filers in this domain.


ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES, AND BIOLOGICAL IMPACTS:  

Advantages:


  1. Wireless Power Transmission system would completely eliminates the existing high-tension power transmission line cables, towers and sub stations between the generating station and consumers and facilitates the interconnection of electrical generation plants on a global scale. It has more freedom of choice of both receiver and transmitters. Even mobile transmitters and receivers can be chosen for the WPT system. 
  2. The cost of transmission and distribution become less and the cost of electrical energy for the consumer also would be reduced. The power could be transmitted to the places where the wired transmission is not possible.
  3.  Loss of transmission is negligible level in the Wireless Power Transmission; therefore, the efficiency of this method is very much higher than the wired transmission. Power is available at the rectenna as long as the WPT is operating. 
  4. The power failure due to short circuit and fault on cables would never exist in the transmission and power theft would be not possible at all.
  5. wireless charging builds on the benefits of inductive charging by removing the close-contact requirement. The transmitter can detect and charge existing receivers at greater distance (up to 45mm). This spatial freedom makes resonant charging perfect for applications such as mounting a charger under a table, desk or embedding technology deeper into a device.

Disadvantages :


  1. The Capital Cost for practical implementation of WPT seems to be very high and the other disadvantage of the concept is interference of microwave with present communication systems.
  2. Long distance charging ,High current and voltage charging are not supported(very fast charging not supported).older device,s not supported. I think high electro-magnetic field disturb charging. But it has several advantages, any device that support wireless charging can accept charge from other device charger ie.,eg.mobile charger is used for charging mp3 player or ipod(because charger and device communicate each other and supply voltage needed for charger and also detect over charging).it also protect main supply variation from smaller device.Wireless charging helps to develop water proof device's easily

           I would like to end that nothing is impossible before science just they are trying for a better idea to transfer power wirelessly.  what if a miracle happens For example, a 1000 years back, the idea of using water head in a dam to cool someone's bedroom, to heat water, to cook food, to illuminate a room, etc would have been thought as impossible. But we, humans, found a way to do it, right? Just like that, I hope, humans will find a way to make wireless transmission of power efficient in the future.

Coherent energy would probably spread less over long distances. A maser is such a source. Improved methods (masers are inefficient) of generating coherent energy could make long-distance power transmission practical.

there is chance that Human will be electricuted when they comes nearer to Transmission line.
